What is a breakout session?
The purpose of a breakout session is to educate woodturners by
answering their questions and demonstrating techniques in a small group
setting. The event is usually held at a member's shop or possibly at
one of the local businesses that support our club. Breakout sessions
typically last for about 4 or 5 hours, but some have been known to go
much longer! It's a great time to meet others with an interest in wood
turning - some with lots of experience and many with none. And if you
are a beginner, it is well worth your time to come by one of the
sessions and learn what it's all about. If you don't know where to
begin, a good choice would be to attend a session featuring the basic
bowl turning technique. You'll learn tool sharpening, what tools to use
and when, design characteristics, wood drying and of course finishing
with a reverse-turned bottom.
Other breakout sessions are held for the full spectrum of wood turners:
Platter turning, natural edge hollow forms, large turning (42"
diameter!!), spindle turning, spheres and eggs, boxes, tools and
sharpening, finish/coloring/decorating and many more.W |
