I am letting all my friends know that I have lost my battle with cancer and went to be with my Lord this morning Wednesday, July 14th. attached is my obituary. Thank You all for being such good friends.

Rodger Howard (Skip) Barrow

            Rodger Howard Barrow, age 62, of Zebulon, died at home on Wednesday, July 14^th, surrounded by his loving family following a courageous two year battle with cancer. 

            Rodger is survived by his wife Deborah Denton Barrow with whom he shared a strong and loving bond that will be cherished forever. Rodger and Deborah were blessed with two children, their daughter Tammy Barrow Penley of Conover, NC and their son Marcus Warren Barrow who resides in Henderson NC with his wife Jeannie, and Rodger’s beautiful granddaughter Addison. He is survived by his sister Susan Barrow Nadel and her husband Doug Nadel of Apex, as well as his brother Wayne Barrow, wife Linda and their daughters of New Hampshire.  Rodger is preceded in death by his parents J. Howard Barrow and Elsie G. Barrow of Raleigh.

            Rodger attended Needham Broughton High School in Raleigh, NC and was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. Rodger went on to obtain an associates degree in Business Administration from King’s College in Raleigh, NC.  He had a 26 year career at Square D Company in Knightdale, NC and then moved on to fulfill his dream of owning and operating his own fine woodworking, wood sales, and furniture restoration business, Barrow’s Woodwright Shop and East Wake Hardwoods, both located in Zebulon.  His ambition was to provide the finest wood he could find for his customers. Often he would travel to hand pick the wood planks himself. His talent and admiration for the craft of woodworking motivated him to establish the Woodworkers of North Carolina (WONC) Gallery where woodsmiths from all areas of North Carolina could display their fine handcrafted pieces.  

            Throughout his life Rodger was active in the Zebulon community as a member of the Zebulon Jaycee’s, and a coach for the East Wake football league (the Zebulon Mini Mights).He was president of the Carolina Mudcats Booster Club for a year and a continuous member. His most current and valued membership was with the “breakfast circle of friends” that gathered at the Corner Café located in downtown Zebulon. Rodger faithfully participated in the morning ritual of sharing breakfast, great stories, and cherished conversations among old and new friends.

            A service will be held Friday, 3 pm, Zebulon United Methodist Church with  visitation following the service at the same location. Rodger will be laid to rest beside his parents Saturday, 11 am, in Raleigh Memorial Park.

            In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make donations to the Woodworkers of North Carolina (WONC) Gallery- WONC, PO Box 25296, Raleigh, NC 27611; or Wake County Hospice, or Zebulon United Methodist Church.

            The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the outpouring of love and support from friends, extended family, and caregivers during his battle with

cancer. We thank you for being a part of our lives and celebrating the wonderful man we all loved and cherished, Rodger Howard Barrow.
